Keely Lake, Ph.D. University of Iowa (1971-2020)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Keely Lake on January 15, 2020. She received her Ph.D. in Classics from the University of Iowa in 2001 and, since then, had been a visiting guest professor at Gettysburg College in 2001, Professor of Classical Greek and Latin at Wayland Academy from 2002 to 2018, and was teaching online courses for Montclair State, Wayne State University, and One Schoolhouse. She served for many years as Secretary of the Vergilian Society, was an active member of several Classics-related boards and organizations, and was a reader/table leader for standardized AP exams in Latin.

Ancient Civilization Graduate Awarded Fulbright to Italy

Nicole Hehr, who received a BA in ancient civilization from the University of Iowa in May 2019, is the winner of a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship Award to Italy for 2019-20. With her Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship Award to Italy, Hehr will teach English at the high school level. She also plans to volunteer with a local medical organization or clinic and start a book club for students learning English.

Paul Dilley Named DSHB Faculty Scholar

Associate Professor Paul Dilley of the Department of Religious Studies and Department of Classics has been announced by the College of Liberal Arts and Science as part of the the 2018-19 class of Developmental Studies Hybridoma Bank (DSHB) Faculty Scholars.
