The undergraduate minor in Greek requires a minimum of 15 s.h., at least 12 s.h. of which must be in advanced courses taken at the University of Iowa. All courses in Greek numbered CLSG:2001 or above are considered advanced for the minor. Students must maintain a g.p.a. of at least 2.00 in all courses for the minor and in all UI courses for the minor. Coursework in the minor may not be taken pass/nonpass.
Students may count one advanced relevant classics department course taught in English and centered around the ancient Greek world (prefix CLSA:3000 or above) toward the minor. A maximum of 6 s.h. of work for another University of Iowa major, minor, or certificate and up to 3 s.h. of lower-level transfer credit may be counted toward the minor.
For a list of relevant courses, contact the undergraduate advisor. Students who have taken high school Greek should consult the advisor. Students with previous knowledge of Greek language, should take the World Languages Placement Test (WLPT) to determine the best level for your first enrollment in a language course.
