Justin Vorhis, Ph.D.
Justin Vorhis is a lecturer of Classics at The University of Iowa. He holds a B.A. in Classics from The Ohio State University, and a M.A. and Ph.D. in Classics from UCLA. His dissertation, “The Best of the Macedonians: Alexander as Achilles in Arrian, Curtius, and Plutarch,” reexamined Alexander the Great’s famous connection to Achilles, arguing that this connection deserves to be viewed as much from a literary as a historical perspective. His primary interests are Alexander the Great, Greek literature, particularly Homer, and Greek history of the Classical and Hellenistic periods. His dream is to retrace as much of Alexander’s campaign route as possible—a dream he began to fulfill by traveling through Greece and the Balkans for two-and-a-half months following his graduation from UCLA.
