Biography

Art L. Spisak is a professor of Classics and joined the department and university in 2011.

His areas of expertise are in Latin poetry of the early Empire (1st cen. C.E.), with concentration on Roman satire and social systems, and especially Martial, the Roman epigrammatist. He is the author of numerous articles on Martial as well as the monograph, Martial: A Social Guide (2007). His current Classics research focuses on reception studies – specifically in the medium of film. He is also active in research on honors education.

Professor Spisak received his Ph.D. in Classical Studies from Loyola University of Chicago.
