Distinguished classicist and “The Odyssey” translator Emily Wilson visits UI

Emily Wilson, Ph.D., a distinguished classicist, professor, and author working as the department Chair of Classical studies at the University of Pennsylvania, visited the University of Iowa on March 12 to discuss her approach to retranslating Homeric poems. Through her work, Wilson has completed English retranslations of both “The Odyssey” and the “The Iliad,” in 2017 and 2023, respectively.

Cargill leads discussion at inaugural First Round series

Roughly 40 people attended the first event of the Iowa City Downtown District’s First Round Series Wednesday at Prairie Lights Cafe in collaboration with the University of Iowa Office of Innovation. Attendees heard from Robert Cargill, UI associate professor of biblical studies, who discussed the question “Can archaeology prove the Bible?”
